In the process of buying a new house, which doesn't have a burglar alarm fitted. The house is carpeted and laminate floored already.

I have seen an alarm system on e-bay with all the fitting guides etc. Can anyone offer advice on how to install them without having to lift the floors up and channel holes in the walls. There is a company which can do it with no mess but I would like to have a go at fitting it myself - also save a bit of dosh

By the way, I'd prefer the wired alarms as apposed to the wireless ones.

Run the wires on the surface, behind coving or skirting.

I went for a wireless one - the Powermax+ from Visonic. Their quad PIR sensors seem quite reliable. I believe this is the same system BT sell you. I went for an 868Mhz based system to avoid any problems with other kit like garage door openers that I think share the 434MHz band.
