My neighbour has a Rationel lift and slide door. As I understand the mechanism, you turn ther handle 180 degrees and this both unlocks the door and lifts it off the seal and onto the rolers. It then slides easily. When the doorr is shut, you turn the handle and it lowers the door onto the seals and locks it.
I presume (but didn't try) that it won't allow you to turn the handle and lower the door unless it is shut. But I'll try that when i am next there, probably on Monday.
