Lead Work Over Party Wall
Posted 28 February 2016 - 03:21 PM
I am hoping that I can get some advice. Our neighbours have had an extension built using the party wall and during the build they changed their minds about the materials that they were going to use for the roof. They went from glass to slate and with the slate has come a very ugly lead work. The lead work now over hangs on our side of the party wall, am I allowed to cut it so that it is neat and pleasing to the eye !

Please see attachment.
As you can see the lead work is very large but there is a over hang on our side of the party wall which is not very straight. I would like to cut this on the top of the wall.
Can I ??

I agree with the above poist however, where does the water go? If there is no gutter and it just runs over the wall and down your side, then I would most definitley want that addressed, so they install a gutter and pipe the water and deal with it on their side.
Perhaps there is something there, but I am just not seeing it?

I'd say the lead work looks quite neat tbh, maybe ask if you can paint it with a suitable paint to make it blend in a little better. Cutting it without permission could amount to criminal damage, and worse if you make the job not watertight.
Edit : fwiw, I believe they should have consulted you prior to overhanging your side with the guttering, unless there was one already there.

I'm struggling with a new browser. I used to be able to right click a picture and open it in a new tab to see a full size image, but on this new browser, a right click just opens it in the small pop up window so I can't see all the detail.

Edit : I wonder if that's timber behind the lead where they've jacked the height up a bit, maybe on the naughty side......
