ebuild is sad to announce its closure - it has become too time and resource intensive to develop, manage and maintain.

However, ebuild will remain on-line in archive mode (ie no posting facilties) for several weeks so that users can use it as an information resource.

The Mods Need Your Help.

We are aware of a number of commercial operators we have admitted to the forum who contribute openly to threads without posting direct links to their business. We welcome their input to discussions on matters of detail which their professional expertise and experience makes them ideally suited to answer.

There is, however, always a nagging doubt that otherwise innocent contributions might hide a secondary agenda which is being followed via PMs that invite members to trade, to which end if members engaged on a build are ever approached in such a way via a PM can they please drop Admin or one (or all) of the moderators a PM as a heads-up? Thanks.

It might seem like paranoia and I guess there is a measure of that at work here, but those of us who have been around building forums for a while know only too well how easy it is for things to get out of hand, paranoia proving to have been more than just a sneaking suspicion that something has been going on.

It's been explained before that those long-standing existing members with open commercial connections have proved their bona fides as being people more concerned with helping others get it right than making a profit out of someone else's ignorance.

Dave, maybe the reason for nil response is that there are no clear exploits going on currently.

Not just easier if the admins look in the database for all PMs sent by those people?

Oh, don't worry, it has worked. ;) But that was a "commercial interest" who owned up so he was cut some slack - on conditions.

He was actually also interested to learn from the forum for his own benefit, so it cut both ways and he did offer constructive advice.

There is usually an administration function (rather than a moderator one) to block or delete a user plus all their posts. This is the best way to deal with pure spammers.

OK, David only logs on occasionally, bu there is surely no reason for him not to grant Joiner board admin status so that he could also do these tasks. This isn't the same as server admin.

That's for the gods to decide, plus, what happens when he's also not online
While the mods are vigilant the scrotes will be held back, a bit like owning a dog and moaning about the fleas isn't it?
Plus ( in fairness ) Joiner does more than his fair share so best not make his shoulders any broader than they already are ;)
Regards, Nick.

I thought this was solved? All Mods can flag someone as a spammer and their posts disappear as if by magic.

Ok, flag button back in full effect.
Can you unflag this individual until the jury decides his fate please?
