We have planning permission to build in our side garden, we hope to be underway before the autumn.
We are looking to build a timber frame, hopefully passive house. We have had one quote for timber frame inc factory cut, delivery, erection inc MVHR insulation at well over 100k. That seems steep and we are looking for advice on where we go next.
The house is 195m2 but that would be reduced I think if it were passive house as the insulation would be more. We definitely want MVHR and a log burner. I have thought that if we are PH then we would not need the underfloor heating and heated towel rails we were initially thinking of.
The attraction to me of the PH is that you know you are getting the performance from the house that you want. We haven't used the PHPP yet as we still feel unsure about what to do regarding ensuring desired energy performance is up to scratch. We have been told by the timber frame manufacturer we got the quote from whose expert I spoke to at length, that the house should be ok as a PH in terms of solar gain and ratio of floor to wall space.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
