Have got some rising damp in a renovation project. Have stripped all the paster off (was blown in a lot of places and in very bad condition) and am injecting dryzone at the weekend. Rather than cement render, undercoat and skim can I just dryline and skim it? Have been told I would be fine just dot and dabbing foil backed pboard on. Any recommendations greatfully received. |

Id go with renovating plaster rather than dot and dab cos I hate this method of building though I acknowledge its widely used. |

Spoke to lafarge technical this afternoon who say vapourcheck or moisturecheck can't be dotted and dabbed. Will have to use regular pboard - just hope the dryzone does its job. Appreciate that a lot of people prefer 'proper' plaster but boards will give me a good finish quickly. |

Id be surprised if it was rising damp ive searched everywhere and cant find proof it exists, you do have a damp problem and injecting stuff into the walls will not stop it, look for the source and fix it. Dabbing on damp walls is not advisable even cold walls will show the dabs through, but will hide damp and mould for now.if it doesnt do its job it could be very expensive but if you have made your mind up i would go with battens rather than dab. |

Thanks Flynnyman but what else can it be? I have an internal wall with timber suspended floors either side. The moisture can only be coming from below cant it? |

Lounge one side, dining room the other, both walls plastered (undercoat and finish by the looks of it), paint over the top followed by wallpaper. |

No rads on this particular wall. After stripping the paper someone has already had a go at solving the problem by painting bitchumen onto the plaster but this was peeling. The wall felt cold and slightly damp |
