ebuild is sad to announce its closure - it has become too time and resource intensive to develop, manage and maintain.

However, ebuild will remain on-line in archive mode (ie no posting facilties) for several weeks so that users can use it as an information resource.

S&n's Irish Farmhouse - Part 13 - Blockwork

Posted by crozier84 , 29 March 2016 · 1,305 views

After an eventful couple of weeks we are now making great progress and are almost complete on the external blockwork. The brickies have a little more to do including setting a few cills and should be finished by the end of this week. We will then get the slaters in next week after I get the plasterer to sort out the chimneys.

Our timber frame guys will be back tomorrow to start the internal insulation and air-tightness. On my build my arrangement with the timber frame supplier was to supply and erect including the insulation and air-tightness only. I have organised all other elements including the blockwork, slates, groundworks etc. Whilst this was certainly more hassle I've no doubt it has saved me a substantial amount of money.

We had an eventful day on saturday putting on our chimney copings. The telescopic on site wasn't high enough to reach therefore my dad had to get his neighbours 17m telescopic, which just about reached.

We need to make a decision on our facsia and soffit. We will definitiely go with black gutters and downpipes and we may also choose black also for our fascias. I'm tempted though to go with off white similar to our windows.

Once i get the in built solars panels and slates on, the insulation and air-tightness done and the scaffolding now I'll get another post up.

Finally a photo of our nice view from the roof down the valley :)

your flying now. Put a couple of coats of cheap fence paint on that timber the soffit vent is sitting on in the 2nd last pic. it will be the only chance you will ever get before the facsia goes on. With white you will notice it more when it gets dirty, black will buy you more time before you get nagged about it needing cleaned.
