S&n's Irish Farmhouse - Part 12 - Windows

Posted by crozier84 , 01 March 2016 · 983 views

Another exciting today, the windows and doors arrived and they were all fitted by 4pm. Roof will now be felted and lathed and the brickies will be on site next week putting up the external blockwork walls. This should take a week then the roofers are back to put on the slates. I will then slow the pace slightly, stand back and consider all my options before moving on.

This photo below is the 'notorious' dummy chimneys. I've decided to simply render them rather than go for the red brick effect. I'm delighted I stuck to my guns that we needed these dummy chimneys as I believe the house simply wouldn't look the same.

I've attached a few photos below. I'll try and put up a little more detail later once I get a bit of time to do so.

This first photo shows what I had originally planned into the conservatory i.e Double doors. I'm tempted to leave the whole area opening or perhaps move the entrance into the conservatory to the left or right hand side. I'm open to ideas if anyone has any?

Most impressive. One point though, shouldn't the roofers load the slates on before the block workers start. It is my understanding the weight of the slates lowers and settles the frame down slightly, hence the wall-ties will be distorted. Hope this helps.

Think your right with the addition of the chimneys, just gives the roof a bit of balance.
I have a 2.5m opening going into my sunroom and we had it originally as a single door then a double door then just left it fully open. We use a couch as a divider to split the 2 rooms but still let the sun shine into the kitchen/dining room.
