S&n's Irish Farmhouse - Part 6 - Footings

Posted by crozier84 , 21 August 2015 · 1,166 views

We now have footing blocks laid for the house (7 courses), with the garage to be completed today. 1300 footing blocks for the house and garage and an additonal 500 9 inches blocks for internal load bearing walls.

The brickie that was originally to do the job didn't turn up on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday therefore I just got another another local one. So great progress for one days work.

Having reviewed and looked at it quite a bit I didn't want to raise the house extermely high at the front therefore I've compromised slightly and will have a small retaining wall at the back.

Next stage is backfilling and getting the Spantherm slabs ordered.

I'm intrigued how he set them out to ensure everything is the right size and parallel with nice right angle corners. No signs of the normal "profiles" being set up? It took our bricky best part of a day just to set up the profiles to ensure when the walls were built they would be mm perfect.

In the first picture you can see the 2 crossheads along the hedge. You have the same on the other side and they simply pull their string from these and work off this.
